How To Attract Lady Bugs

There are a variety of different bugs that are beneficial to any garden; lady bugs are one of them. There are also a variety of plants that attract lady bugs.

Cilantro for one is a plant that brings in both aphids, which serve as food for lady bugs, and lady bugs that eat the aphids. They are attracted to the white flowers that grow on cilantro when it is in bloom. Aside from attracting lady bugs that eat harmful aphids, it is also yummy as an herb in many dishes. Lady bugs, as with any creature, are generally attracted to homes that have lots of food and water. If you have an infestation of aphids or some other pest, wait a while to see if lady bugs come to your garden when it is their season, if you use bug spray to kill all the aphids, what will the lady bugs eat?

Fresh water supplies like bird baths that are changed regularly and water dishes also attend to attract lady bugs and a whole lot of other insects that are obedient to your garden or flower bed. Marigolds also benefit attract lady bugs. According to some, it is plants that have umbrella shaped blooms that most attract lady bugs; I suppose they offer the most shelter when it comes to raising a limited lady bug family. Some other plants that have this kind of blooms are fennel, dill, wild carrot, yarrow, and tansy. Like I said before, white flowers tend to attract beneficial bugs best because they stand out against solid backdrops (bugs are color blind). Be sure when you are trying to attract lady bugs that you know exactly what they peep like, what their larvae and eggs look like, and when they are likely to appear so that you don't mistakenly find rid of them.

Plants that bloom early in the season like red or crimson clover are also beneficial because aphids have not yet hatched completely and these plants offer the lady bugs a dependable food source. When it comes to plants that attract aphids, just about any vegetable, but especially cabbage and potatoes, should do the trick. You also need to be clear that there is a large variety of different plants in your garden so that there is ample opportunity to attract different kinds of beneficial bugs. So to review, plants with umbrella shaped blooms, white blooms, plants that bloom early, and plants that attract aphids are your best bets when you are trying to attract lady bugs.
